  2. It seems to me there is no legit critique of domestic US policy and culture without the critique of its foreign policy. All Americans live in a oppressive, suffocating bubble of propaganda and ignorance and it's the job of intellectuals to explain this. Identity and racial politics ignores this. You can't postmodern away MLKs radical critique of such a country.

  3. This has to be later than 1982, because she published “Beloved” in 1987, I believe, and “Jazz” in the early 90s. Perhaps the video is from 1992?
