Samuel Museus THE 2014 GEORGE D. KUH OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION
TO LITERATURE AND RESEARCH AWARD GOES TO SAMUEL MUSEUS. THE ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF HIGHER
EDUCATION AT THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER IS KNOWN FOR THE VOLUME OF HIGH-QUALITY PUBLICATIONS
HE HAS PRODUCED IN THE FIELD. HIS WORK ADDRESSES THE NEED FOR COLLEGE ENVIRONMENTS
TO FOSTER EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS FOR RACIALLY DIVERSE STUDENTS. JUST IN THE PAST 8 YEARS,
HE’S COMPILED MORE THAN 120 NATIONAL PRESENTATIONS AND PUBLICATIONS ON THE TOPIC – INCLUDING
8 BOOKS AND MONOGRAPHS. WHILE HIS RESEARCH ADVOCATES FOR THE INCLUSION
OF ALL STUDENTS – HE’S ESPECIALLY KNOWN FOR THE VISIBILITY AND VOICE HE’S GIVEN
THE ASIAN AMERICAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER COMMUNITY. COLLEAGUES SAY HE IS THE FOREMOST THINKER
AND WRITER ON THIS POPULATION. FRIENDS SAY SAM’S WORK GOES BEYOND ADVOCATING
FOR INCLUSION OF MARGINALIZED STUDENTS….. HE CONDUCTS RESEARCH THAT HELPS FOSTER SUCCESS
AMONG ALL STUDENTS. IN ADDITION – COLLEAGUES USE SAM’S RESEARCH
TO HELP INFORM THEIR OWN DECISIONS – HIS WORK CHANGES HOW PEOPLE APPROACH PERSISTENCE,
RACIAL CLIMATE, AND CULTURE ON THEIR CAMPUSES. MOREOVER – HE IS AS EFFECTIVE AS A TEACHER
– AS HE IS A SCHOLAR. STUDENTS VALUE HIM AS A MENTOR AND APPRECIATE HIS SENSITIVE AND
INSIGHTFUL PERCEPTIONS. LET US CONGRATULATE – SAMUEL MUSEUS – THE
2014 WINNER OF THE GEORGE D. KUH OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO LITERATURE AND RESEARCH AWARD.
