Prime Minister’s Literary Awards 2016 Joint Australian History Winner Geoffrey Blainey AC

I think that writing is important whether
it’s poetry or the novel or history or drama it really is important. We belong to the number one language in the
world so that we can contribute something internationally but its so important that
writing which is many ways is an individualist activity should occasionally receive its share
of fame and its rewards and to many writers these are great occasions and if by chance
they’re shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s prize or they actually win it or share it
they feel that society’s recognising them.
