Mary Szybist on the Literary Arts Community in Portland, Oregon

I’m Mary Szybist. I teach in the English department here at
Lewis & Clark college. Well on of the great things about being a
writer in Portland is the arts community, the literary community, is just on fire here. There’s so many opportunities to see readings. There are great opportunities for internships
and they’re just great opportunities to be present at things all kinds of people are
making, both people who live here and people who are coming through. The museums, the literary venues, you know
there are whole non-profits dedicated to bringing writing workshops into populations that otherwise
would not have access to them, so to me that’s one of the great things about being a student
in Portland and being a writer in Portland is just having access.
